Keichi FAQs

  • It uses an E26/E27 LED bulb that meets the recommended specifications. A bulb may be included for initial testing. Only LED bulbs should be used, as incandescent or halogen bulbs may generate excessive heat. You may choose a different LED bulb to suit your preferred brightness.

  • The rice paper diffuses light beautifully for a gentle, even glow. It looks light and airy and gives the lamp its classic Akari washi style character.

  • Yes. The shade is removable. If you ever need a replacement, we can help you source one.

  • Just a few minutes. Clear instructions and any tools you need are included. Fit the shade, screw in the bulb and plug it in.

  • Give it a light dust with a soft brush or microfiber cloth. Keep it dry and handle it gently so the paper stays crisp.

  • Height 60 cm (23.6 in). Diameter 40 cm (15.7 in). Sized for the floor, where it adds a soft pool of light beside a sofa or in a corner.

About the Keichi Paper Lamp

A tall paper lamp that works as a table or floor lamp

The Keichi is our tallest paper lamp at 60cm, with a tiered rice paper shade 40cm across. That size gives it two jobs: stand it on the floor beside a sofa, bed or reading chair as a compact paper floor lamp, or put it on a low sideboard as a sculptural lantern that fills a whole corner with soft light.

Rice paper floor lamp style without the big footprint

Full-height Japanese floor lanterns can take over a small room. The Keichi keeps the same diffused, washi-style glow at a more manageable size, so it suits apartments, bedrooms and reading nooks where a tall floor lamp would feel crowded. Its tripod legs arrive straight and can be gently bent outward to widen the stance and match the look in our photos.

It uses a single E26/E27 LED bulb and a 150cm cord. The Keichi is inspired by the Akari lanterns Isamu Noguchi began designing in 1951, and is Lamp Boy's own design, not affiliated with Noguchi, Vitra or Ozeki.

Where to put a tall paper lamp

The Keichi glows best when it has a little space around it. Popular spots include the floor beside a sofa or armchair, a corner that the ceiling light doesn't reach, the floor next to a bed, or a low media unit or bench where the full tiered shade is visible. Placed at floor level, it casts a soft pool of light upwards and outwards, much like a traditional Japanese floor lantern, which makes a room feel warmer and more intimate in the evening. Pair it with a warm white bulb for the most relaxing glow, and add a smaller paper lamp such as the Hachi on a side table if you want layered light.
